Sorry, people are still allergic to the New Order

Detik.com - March 17, 2004

Detikpolling, Jakarta – The claim by the National Functional Party of Concern (PKPB) that there are many people who yearn for the New Order regime [of Former President Suharto] has not received a very warm welcome. The majority of respondents said they did not miss the New Order. This is apparent from the results of a Detik.com poll on the PKPB phenomena.

The provisional results of the polling as of 10.30am Wednesday March 17 were taken from 216 short message service (SMS) respondents. Of this total, as many as 169 or 78.2 pre cent said that did not miss the Suharto regime. Only 47 respondents (21.8 per cent) stated the reverse.

Earlier, during a number of campaigns, PKPB figures such as former [army chief of staff] General Hartono and [Suharto’s eldest daughter] Siti “Tutut” Hardiyanti said that the establishment of their party was to see want support had resurfaced for the New Order regime. They have even stated openly that they are Suharto’s lackeys.
