Indonesia helps fund MSG Police Academy

Radio New Zealand International - January 10, 2014

Indonesia has donated half a million US dollars to the soon to be established Regional Police Academy of the Melanesian Spearhead Group in Fiji.

Fiji's Information Ministry says the donation was made in Suva by Indonesia's Secretary of Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Lt Gen Langgeng Sulistiyono.

It says Fiji is taking a lead role in establishing the academy which will be based in Fiji to train police officers from the five MSG countries.

It is not immediately clear whether this involves police from New Caledonia whose pro-independence FLNKS Movement is an MSG member.
